About Chapter 41

A New Voice Rising in America’s Finest City

COMTO San Diego is the newest chapter in the national COMTO network, proudly becoming Chapter 41 in a movement that has shaped transportation for more than five decades. As San Diego’s transportation landscape accelerates—light rail expansion, zero-emission fleets, regional mobility planning—we are stepping in with purpose, equity, and a commitment to making sure every community has a seat at the table.

We believe that lived experience powers progress. That the leadership of an industry responsible for moving all people, all the time, should reflect the diverse mosaic of the people it serves. And that when we uplift underrepresented voices, we move the entire region forward.

As we launch in San Diego, we draw inspiration from COMTO’s long-standing legacy while building programming that reflects the needs, opportunities, and energy of our region—border communities, military-connected families, tribal nations, coastal and inland neighborhoods, and a vibrant ecosystem of transportation professionals, students, small businesses, and agencies.

COMTO San Diego is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Scholarships & Community Impact

Like our sister chapters across the country, COMTO San Diego is committed to investing in the next generation of transportation and infrastructure leaders. Our emerging scholarship program will provide financial support to students pursuing careers in transportation, engineering, planning, technology, environmental sciences, and any field that powers movement and mobility.

Education is the foundation of opportunity, and we aim to cultivate a pipeline of diverse, empowered leaders ready to shape the future of mobility in San Diego and beyond.

Strategic Alignment

Our chapter’s mission aligns with the COMTO National 2022–2025 Strategic Plan, which charts a bold path toward:

  • Full access and representation for underrepresented communities in all transportation modes

  • Professional development and leadership cultivation for professionals at every stage of their career

  • Advocacy and engagement that keeps equity at the center of mobility transformation

We are committed to carrying this mission locally—partnering with agencies, small businesses, community organizations, and regional stakeholders to create meaningful, measurable impact.

Joining the San Diego COMTO chapter has been one of the best career decisions I’ve made. Having a local network of transportation professionals who are committed to equity and access means I never have to navigate this industry alone. COMTO connects me to mentors, opportunities, and a community that genuinely invests in my growth.
